Cooperative Society Members

The word ‘Abamwe’ means Unity in the western Uganda dialect of Runyakitara. Abamwe is a membership-based cooperative of vanilla and cocoa farmers.

Abamwe’s members take a lot of pride in promoting Ugandan Vanilla and Cocoa – which is why from inception they have chosen organic farming as a way of life.

  • Care in every step of our process
  • Preservation of the planet and our way of life

How we work with our farmers

Organization

The cooperative’s leaders are appointed from the farming community. <<Add some more context>>

Harvesting

There are two harvests that are coordinated among all the farmers. The primary harvest occurs between June and July, while the secondary harvest occurs between November and December. Harvesting is a family endeavor.

There are a total of 6174 acres of farmland, with 1,500 to 2,000 vanilla orchids per hectare.
After the green vanilla beans are harvested by the farmers, they notify the Abamwe office. Our office mobilizes a team to collect the pods and start preparing them for the curing process.
